Tuesday was Redlands night at the Redlands Bowl.

How else can you describe a concert by the Redlands Fourth-of-July Band, directed by the inimitable Curtiss Allen Sr. and including “Put Me Off at Redlands” and suite called “The Smileys of Redlands” in salute to Redlands’ 125th anniversary year?

The all-volunteer band is made up of local people, from students to grandparents, with amateur musicians mixed with some professionals, and Allen himself has become Redlands’ Music Man over the years. He not only founded the Redlands Fourth-of-July Band but also has led the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival’s Tuesday night pre-concert community sings for more than 30 years.
