NFL draft: NY Giants take UCLA LB Darius Muasau in 6th round

The senior linebacker, who led the Bruins in tackles the past two seasons, goes 183rd overall to the New York Giants

The New York Giants picked UCLA linebacker Darius Muasau with the 183rd overall pick in the sixth round of the NFL draft Saturday.

The Bruins’ defensive captain, who was the team’s top tackler the past two seasons, finished his UCLA career with 26 consecutive starts.

Last season, the 6-foot, 225-pounder recorded a team-high 75 tackles (10.5 for a loss), five stops and an interception. In 2023, he led with 67 tackles.

The All-Pac-12 second-team selection was named LA Bowl Defensive MVP after coming up with 11 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss in on Dec. 16, 2023, at SoFi Stadium.

The Bruins also had several other players expected to sign with teams as undrafted free agents.

Defensive back Alex Johnson told the Southern California ɫ̳ Group that he will sign with the Giants. He is coming off a breakout season when he had five interceptions and a fumble recovered for a touchdown.

Defensive lineman Carl Jones Jr. has signed with the Chicago Bears, according a post on X from .

Defensive lineman Gabriel Murphy is expected to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, according to multiple reports. Gabriel had 38 tackles (16 for a loss) and eight sacks in 13 games played last season.

Defensive lineman Grayson Murphy is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Grayson had 32 tackles (nine for a loss), five sacks and two forced fumbles in 13 games for the Bruins in 2023.

Running back Carson Steele is expected to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Steele led UCLA in rushing (847 yards) in his only season with the Bruins.

Colson Yankoff signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent, his agent told the Southern California ɫ̳ Group.

Several teams were said to be interested in him as a tight end. He’s worked with several position groups during his college career, including quarterback and running back. He also served as a kick returner for the Bruins in 2023.

Center Duke Clemens signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent, according to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson.
