Mazie Ann Fairfax OBITUARY

Ms. Mazie Ann Fairfax, age 96, of Alta Loma, California, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Ms. Fairfax was born on April 18, 1928. She was the daughter of Annie Mae Butts and Jessie Fairfax of Fulton County, Georgia. She is survived by her only child Karen Henderson and son-in-law, Marco Giordano. Ms. Fairfax attended primary and secondary school in Atlanta, Georgia. She also attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. She is a graduate of Tuskegee University, Alabama. After graduating from Tuskegee University, Ms. Fairfax’s independent and adventurous spirit led her out west to California where she eventually went on to earn her teaching credentials. In 1965 she began her 30-year-long teaching career at Newman Elementary School, Chino Unified School District. Ms. Fairfax always had a way of filling a room full of laughter. Her laughter was infectious and will be missed. Ms. Fairfax had many hobbies. You could always find her engaged in one of her arts and crafts hobbies or learning a new hobby. On the weekends, she would always be outside working in the yard either pruning her roses and fruit trees or mowing the lawn. During the work week, you could always find her up late at night sewing a dress suit to wear to work the next day or an outfit for her daughter. She also enjoyed entering one of her many crochet projects into the Pomona County Fair arts and crafts exhibits. Ms. Fairfax learned to sew and crochet as a young child. She sewed and crocheted until the age of 94. At age 95 while under hospice care, Ms. Fairfax moved from her home of 40 years to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Mom passed away on her birthday at age 96. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Viewing will be held at:Funeraria Del Angel Chino, Wednesday, May 8th at 12:00pm13002 S.
