A 38-year-old motorist was killed and his passenger injured when his pickup truck veered off of a road north of Moreno Valley and slammed into a tree, authorities said Tuesday.

Adrian Magallanes of Redlands was fatally injured about 11:20 p.m. Monday on San Timoteo Canyon Road, near Deadwood Court, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Jonathan Torres told City ɫ̳ Service that Magallanes was traveling at an undetermined speed northbound in his 2005 Nissan Titan when he went off the two-lane corridor and plowed into the tree.

Paramedics reached the location a short time later and pronounced Magallanes dead at the scene.

His front-seat passenger, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment. The victim was expected to recover fully.

“It’s unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor,” Torres said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the San Gorgonio CHP office at 951-846-5300.
